Leadership in Junior Secondary:

Leadership and community participation is fostered and future leaders identified and developed. Junior students are recognised by unique junior school uniform identifiers and are taught through our Learning & Wellbeing program to model and exemplify emerging adult behaviours and responsibilities of active citizenship and contributors to society and the economy post-school.

Opportunities are provided in co-curricular program conducted in-school and in partnership with external providers including "High Resolves” to build esteem, encourage individual goal setting and apply skills learned to community based projects.

Pathways and Outcomes complement each other to ensure success and progression to "next steps" to Senior School.

 iPads in Grade 7, 8 and 9

Shailer Park State High School has an effective iPad program embedded in Junior Secondary. iPads are an effective learning tool in supporting group learning and providing instantaneous feedback to the teacher. Research shows that both group learning (reciprocal teaching) and feedback are two of the most powerful approaches to increasing student outcomes. As part of this program students entering into Grade 7, 8 and 9 in 2016 will be encouraged to participate in this program. Students and parents/caregivers are asked to lend their support to this very valuable and innovative program. Strong support from parents and caregivers is paramount to ensure the program is successful and that students gain the maximum benefit.

To participate in this program there are two options available to parents Rent to buy, or Bring Your Own Device. Please refer to the iPad charter (PDF, 168KB) for information about iPads in grade 7, 8 and 9.

Students must compete and hand to the office upon enrolment an Information Tech Use Agreement.pdf, and BYOD Agreement.pdf. There are included in enrolment packs also.

Junior Secondary Assessment: Junior Secondary students will complete folios of work throughout their Junior Secondary years. Some of this assessment will be formative (may not contribute to the Level of Achievement result) and some will be summative (will definitely contribute to the Level of Achievement result). Students are expected to submit drafts to receive feedback on their assessment prior to final submit and they are expected to meet deadlines. Junior Secondary Assessment Policy 2015.pdf for further details.
