Learning Centre

The SPSHS Learning Centre provides students with convenient access to information services suited to a wide range of learning and recreational needs.  The collection is regularly updated in consultation with faculties and include:

  • An extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction books;
  • A range of audio-visual resources including DVDs, CD-ROMs, videos, and more;
  • A variety of periodical titles, both for curriculum and recreational use;
  • A large collectin of maps, charts, pictures, and newspapers;
  • Databases including ANZRC, Macquarie Net, and Cyberschool.

Learning Centre Services

  • Online catalogue accessible from every school computer;
  • Access to computers, media centre, and printing facilities;
  • Use of equipment including digital and video cameras, data projector and laptop, cassette players, etc.;
  • Helping students expand their research and information skills;
  • Assistance in the use of Learning Centre facilities provided by friendly, professional staff;
  • Membership of Ashton Scholastic Book Club which allows students to purchase items at a reduced price.

Opening Hours

We are open from 8.15 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Borrowing

  • Students in Years 8-10 may borrow 3 fiction and 3 non-fiction items at any given time.
  • Students in Years 11 and 12 may borrow 5 of each at any given time.
  • The loan time for fiction books is 2 weeks and for non-fiction is 5 days.
  • Some materials are for overnight or weekend loan only.
  • Loans may be renewed for as long as they have not been reserved by other borrowers.
  • Returns are down the shute at the charge desk.
